Statement

While my work ranges from more traditional oil on canvas portraits to experimental, large-scale, mixed-media work on paper, it may be considered in three main bodies, Flower Heads, Abstract Paintings, and Scrolls and Tapestries

Flower Heads, a series in oil on canvas, explores qualities of hope and the tension between outlook and painful emotion. Using the interplay of color, subject and background, as well as the repeated motif of a flower growing on top of subjects’ heads, these paintings seek to question to one’s attitude.

Abstract paintings on stretched canvas are contemplative explorations of expressive spaces. On canvas, I slow down and consider the details of the imagined world.

Large abstract work on canvas explores emotional uncertainty through experimental mixed media applications of graphite, paint, charcoal, and gesso. Using chaotic grayscale and textural elements, I attempt to carve out paths through sweeping internal surveys that balance the composition, invite calm and provide spaces for self-reflection.

Whether through abstract expression or emotionally charged portraits, my work confronts emotional experiences.
